THERE’S no doubt moving up to the Manly hub has been challenging for all players, coaches and staff at the Melbourne Football Club, but none have had it tougher than the Vineys.

Jack Viney’s wife, Charlotte, gave birth to their daughter Mila just nine days prior to the Demons’ trip north, forcing the couple to learn the art of parenthood on the fly.

And while it hasn’t been easy, they couldn’t have handled the situation any better.

“We’re doing pretty well,” Viney said on The Talking Points.

“It’s been certainly challenging trying to find our feet as parents amongst all the uncertainty that comes with my job.

“But I think we’re very fortunate to be able to be with each other during this time.”

The Vineys haven’t been left to tackle this trip on their own, with plenty of support coming from all areas of the hub.

“The AFL and Melbourne have been so good to accommodate us and do everything possible to make our stay as easy as possible with a newborn,” Charlotte said.

“The other girlfriends who have got young babies as well have been so incredible and supportive, and club doctors have been looking after me, so I’ve got so much support here.

“Even though [I’m] leaving family at home, feels like I’ve got a bit of family here to help out when [Jack’s] not around.

“Definitely, it’s been hard, but the girls have made it so much easier.”

And of course, along with the joys of having a baby comes the testing reality of sleep deprivation – something Viney has encountered in the past two weeks.

“There isn’t an end to a day and a start to a day,” he said.

“You just take little naps while you can.

“You kind of learn that time is a premium, so when it comes to training you really make the most of it.”

The challenges are endless for the first-time parents, who provided an insight into their hub experience in Episode 3 of The Talking Points below.
