Melbourne Football Club player Addam Maric has admitted to a breach of the AFL’s Code of Conduct by placing a bet on an AFL game.

Maric recently attended an education session conducted by the AFLPA on gambling.  Following the session, Maric approached Melbourne’s GM Football, Chris Connolly, to inform him that he had breached the Code of Conduct by placing a bet for a friend on an AFL game on his betting account.

The Club immediately informed the AFL, and the AFL investigated the incident.  Both Addam and the Club cooperated fully with the AFL investigation.

Maric placed a single $100 bet in Round 15 of this year, backing Collingwood to defeat the Western Bulldogs.

Maric apologised to the AFL, the Club and all Melbourne supporters for his actions, and is extremely remorseful for placing the bet in breach of AFL rules.

‘I am extremely embarrassed by my actions, and wish to apologise to the AFL, the Melbourne Football Club, and the wider football community. I know that as an AFL player, my actions have the ability to cause serious consequences, and for this I am truly sorry’, Maric said.

Maric has accepted the $5,000 fine, and has also volunteered his time to help educate other young players to help prevent them making the same mistake.
