MELBOURNE youngster Cale Morton has signed a new two-year contract that will keep him at the club until the end of 2011.
List manager Tim Harrington said it was great to win the 19-year-old's commitment after two promising seasons.
"He has developed strongly since arriving at the club and has shown great versatility in his game, being able to play a number of different roles for the team," Harrington said.
"We have a promising group of young players and Cale is an integral part of our future."
Morton, recruited from Western Australia with the No. 4 selection in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft, said he was pleased to sign on as a Demon.
"It's great news and it's exciting news. When I got to the club at the start of last year, I can see what's ahead at the footy club and it's exciting times," Morton told melbournefc.com.au.
"There is a great list of young players assembling together and over the last two years, I've recognised how exciting it is going to be and I really want to be a part of the Melbourne footy club going forward.
"And hopefully we can have success down the track."
Morton has played 37 matches since making his debut in round one, 2008 and has shared his senior football between defence, the midfield and forward line.
He finished equal sixth in the club's best-and-fairest award last season and won the Harold Ball Memorial Trophy for the best first-year player.
He is the youngest of three Morton brothers playing in the AFL. Eldest brother Mitch is at Richmond and middle sibling Jarryd is with Hawthorn.
