MAEVE Chaplin’s breakout year has been recognised with a maiden selection in the 2024 AFLW All-Australian squad.
Chaplin was named in the 42-player line-up, which looks to acknowledge the best individual talent across the league.
The 22-year-old features in the backline after a season that saw her skyrocket to one of the league’s most impressive defenders.
In her four seasons at the Dees, arriving at the start of 2022, Chaplin has been on a steady rise with each year, her 2024 campaign the best one yet.
Looking at her statistics, she averaged 6.7 intercepts (10th in the league) and 13.6 disposals, with a disposal efficiency of 78.7% (a team high).
In addition to her on-field efforts, Chaplin took on further responsibility within the backline, helping lead the younger generation of Demons coming into the side.
Sitting down with Melbourne Media last week, she reflected on the year that was and her dedication during the pre-season that helped push her to a new level.
“I worked really hard in the off-season,” Chaplin said.
“[In previous years] I had glimpses of really enjoying being a professional athlete and maturity came with it, the maturity of wanting to work hard.
“I just want my teammates, my coaches and the staff to know that I'm working hard and that I'm really dedicated to this club and being the best person I can be on and off the field.”
The final team of 21, including a captain and vice-captain, will be announced at the 2024 W Awards on Monday 25th November.
