Melbourne has entered nearly every clash this season as the underdogs, expect for round one against Brisbane Lions, when the Demons went down at the MCG.
But Neeld said talk of Melbourne being favourites was not even mentioned in its pre-match planning.
“No, that sort of stuff is for you guys (the media) and the people that read the papers,” he said from AAMI Park on Thursday.
“That fact, whether we’re favourites or whatever the odds are, has absolutely no impact on our day-to-day dealings leading into games.”
Neeld said the players and coaches were refreshed and ready for the challenges of the second half of the season.
And although the football department had a mid-season review during its break, Neeld said the club was continually refining its list and goals for the future.
But he said Melbourne’s remaining matches were not about wins and losses, but key indicators.
“We’ve got some targets we’d like to hit in the second half of the year, beginning on Sunday,” he said.
“That’s all about outcomes and you can’t achieve those outcomes unless you have some actions along the way.
“[Indicators] are different for different clubs, because everyone is at a different stage of development, trying to achieve different things.”
