Focus on Giants, not Scully
Mark Neeld has never met Tom Scully, saying on Thursday he views him as just another opponent
He said while there was a lot of talk by the media about Scully's return there was "not a lot of talk by us".
Neeld described Scully as just another opposition player, albeit a talented one.
"I haven't met Tom," Neeld said. "[He] seems like a young talented player who runs a fair bit, [has] got good skills and he is playing for the opposition on Saturday."
The Demons expect a competitive game against the Giants with both clubs sitting near the foot of the ladder, having won one game apiece.
Neeld was impressed with the performances of Giant youngsters Jonathon Patton and Jeremy Cameron and knows they will be difficult to counter on Sunday.
"They're serious players, no doubt," said
The Demons reset during the bye and established some new targets to aim for in the second half of the season.
But Neeld said such targets did not include a win-loss ratio.
"The trap with the win stuff is that that is all about outcomes and you can't achieve those outcomes unless you have some actions along the way," he said.
"They [the indicators] are different for different clubs because everyone is at different stages in their development and trying to achieve different things."
Meanwhile Neeld said young defender Clint Bartram was disappointed he would miss the second half of the season with a degenerative knee injury.
He said being told that the next time he would participate in full training would be November was difficult.
"We sat down with Clint and went through what his rehab is going to look like and in the initial stages that is tough," Neeld said.
"He'll be right, he's a good strong resilient character and he will get through it, I'm sure."
Bartram will continue to participate in the leadership development program and be active off the field while his rehabilitation continues.
