DEFENDER Jared Rivers is adamant the Demons are improving each week, despite remaining winless after four rounds.

Speaking after Melbourne’s 21-point loss to Western Bulldogs at the MCG on Sunday, the former vice-captain said he could see genuine progress under new coach Mark Neeld.

“Definitely every week, I think we’re getting better,” he said.

“Definitely every week we're getting better. Our training's getting better and we're improving, so it's going to come. We're just hoping it's sooner rather than later.”

“Everyone is having a crack at training and recovery, and the meetings are all top notch, so hopefully we can see our improvements next week.”

Although Rivers said the team was “knackered” after the game, he added that there were a few missed opportunities by the Demons - something they must make amends for next Saturday night against St Kilda at the MCG.

“They got some easy goals and we really struggled to get those easy goals,” he said.

“We worked really hard to get those goals and sometimes the Doggies got two or three easy goals on us, which we need to improve on.

“It’s not fun losing, and it’s a good opportunity next week against the Saints to really step up again and hopefully play four quarters - and hopefully get our first win of the season.”
