CAPTAIN James McDonald remains a chance to play in Melbourne’s clash against Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Sunday, June 27.

McDonald missed his first match of the season last Monday - Melbourne’s draw against Collingwood at the MCG - with a hamstring injury.

But the Demons are hopeful McDonald can lead the side during the second part of the AFL’s split round.

The 33-year-old has been in outstanding form this year, similar to his Keith ‘Bluey’ Truscott Memorial Trophy winning seasons in 2006-07.

He is also not without a chance of claiming his third best-and-fairest award this year.

Melbourne has 10 players on its injury list, with much-improved forward Ricky Petterd (shoulder) and ruckman John Meesen (ankle) out long term.

First-year ruckman Max Gawn is still another five weeks away; Rohan Bail (fractured cheekbone), Sam Blease (leg), Daniel Hughes (ankle) and Michael Newton (calf) are one week off.

The Demons have a break this weekend, with many players taking the opportunity to freshen up for the second half of the season.

Some will play for Casey in the VFL, including exciting forward Liam Jurrah, who is set to return against Williamstown at Burbank Oval on Saturday.

Jurrah has missed the entire home-and-away season with a shoulder injury.

It is not yet known if he will play seniors or reserves.
