AFTER three years away from the game, Denby Taylor has fallen in love with football again.

Stepping away from the game in 2021 for personal reasons, it took Taylor just five VFLW games to know that she was back where she wanted to be.

“I took the decision to have a bit of time away, it was really good for me, it’s what I needed,” Taylor told Melbourne Media.

“The love came back even stronger, I’m excited to experience it all again in something different and new, with all these amazing girls, they’re the best.

“Kicking the footy is the best ever, doing it with your mates is so good, I’ve been loving every moment.”

Following a great season and VFL level, Taylor was elevated to Melbourne’s AFLW list.

New colours and a new home can be a challenge, but one Taylor has embraced with open arms.

“To come in it’s been a big warm embrace,” Taylor added.

I feel so safe and excited to grow in this space.

Head coach Mick Stinear has an elaborate way with debut announcements, leaning into Taylor’s nickname of ‘Dingo’ with a David Attenborough style documentary.

“I thought it was awesome, David Attenborough was narrating and he said my name and I was so chuffed,” Taylor told Melbourne Media.

“I was confused and didn’t even clock on to what it was all about.

“That’s just the effort that they all go too, it was amazing.

“It [Dingo nickname] was self-appointed actually, my friend said I really reminded her of a Dingo and I said I think I’m going to run with that.

“Next day I introduced myself as Dingo and it went on.”
