EXCITING forward Liam Jurrah is set to play his first match of football this Saturday, since suffering a shoulder injury against Adelaide at Elizabeth Oval in this year’s NAB Challenge.

Jurrah has been sidelined up until now, after he underwent a shoulder reconstruction following the setback in March.

The Northern Territorian played nine matches in his debut season last year, delighting the football fraternity with his aerial skills and freakish style. He kicked 20 goals, including three bags of four majors in 2009.

Football operations general manager Chris Connolly said Jurrah is “ready to go” for Casey against Williamstown at Burbank Oval this Saturday. But it remains to be seen if he will play in the VFL seniors or reserves.

“We’ve been very conservative with his rehab and made sure he dots all the I’s and crosses all the T’s,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“He’ll play on the weekend, whether he plays seniors or reserves, I’m not sure.

“That decision will be made later on, but the club is absolutely rapt to have him back playing.”

Connolly said the 21-year-old had been diligent and committed in his rehabilitation.

“He just loves football. He has a genuine passion for the game and he’s conducted himself really well and he’s just itching to get out and play with the boys,” he said.

“He’s ticked every box and for a new player in the AFL to be able to do 100 per cent rehab correctly takes a bit of time management.

“He’s conducted himself really well, he hasn’t missed a beat and we expect him to jump straight into football pretty efficiently.”

Connolly is also optimistic the forward will don the red and blue by the season’s end.

“The team’s in good form at senior level and he’d probably play a good month at Casey in one way shape or form and then we’ll just see how he’s going to consider senior selection,” he said.

“We’d love to have him play some senior football before the end of the season, but at the moment, it’s a week to week proposition.”
