MELBOURNE is committed to its community. We aim to provide meaningful and real experiences through school, health and sporting programs related to community needs.
There are plenty of exciting things happening in the Melbourne community department. We want to keep you updated with what the players have been doing, and how our programs have been going, particularly in the City of Casey, where we are committed to developing and helping the local community.
Below is what’s happening at community level and what’s coming up over the next few weeks.
Dandenong District Junior Football League
Melbourne, as a part of its commitment to the City of Casey, has formed an exciting partnership with the DDJFL in an aim to support Australian Rules at a grassroots level.
The DDJFL was last week given an exciting opportunity, when their interleague representative squads (boys and girls), trained under the guidance of Melbourne.
Brent Moloney, Lynden Dunn, and Jared Rivers took the boys’ teams through their paces, focusing on drills and skills the Demons work on at AFL level.
Big men Mark Jamar and Brad Miller took the girls’ interleague team for various skill orientated activities, in preparation for the squad’s metropolitan championship matches.
Inside - and out of the cold - DDJFL coaches were treated to a planning and development session by assistant coaches Sean Wellman and Josh Mahoney, who put together an interesting presentation to assist the coaches at DDJFL level.
Primary school visits
Most of the playing list hit the City of Casey on Tuesday, visiting more than 17 schools around the area.
The visits, focusing on a healthy lifestyle/leadership talk or AFL Auskick clinic, were run over two hours and provided more than 800 students with the opportunity to meet their favourite Demons.
The visits were a fantastic opportunity to interact and form strong relationships with schools in the local Casey community.
Superclinic at Casey Fields
Next Tuesday, the players will be running an Auskick super clinic at the club’s training base, Casey Fields.
The clinic, in conjunction with AFL Victoria, is an opportunity for budding young stars in the Casey area to come along and learn tips from their favourite Demons through a range of activities.
The players are looking forward to passing on their tips and hints, and will even be signing autographs for participants.
