ON SUNDAY night, Melbourne director Peter Spargo and his wife Kate hosted a new players/parents welcome barbeque at their stunning home in Melbourne’s inner east.

The draftees’ partners and families, plus some key Melbourne staff also attended.

General manager of football Chris Connolly was master of ceremonies for the evening.

President Jim Stynes, coach Dean Bailey, national recruiting manager Barry Prendergast and chief executive Cameron Schwab gave speeches during the evening.

Prendergast introduced all nine new players and gave an insight into the draftees for the 120 guests.

Senior players Colin Sylvia, Jack Grimes, Colin Garland and Cale Morton were also at the event.

It is the second year Spargo and his family has invited the new players and their families into their home, as part of a welcome to the club.
