FORMER skipper Brad Green “will be around the selection mark” for Sunday’s clash against Western Bulldogs at the MCG, according to coach Mark Neeld.

Green kicked two goals for Casey against Bendigo on Sunday after being omitted for round three. On Monday, Neeld flagged the veteran Demon could return for Melbourne’s tribute game for club great Jim Stynes.

Neeld said Green received close attention playing in the VFL, which was “always going to happen”.

“You put a player such as Brad with his experience and his ability in the VFL - and that’s fair enough,” he said.

“I thought his effort was pretty good. He certainly gave as much as he possibly could and we had a great expectation that’s what Brad was going to do.

“He’s a good quality player.”

Reflecting on Melbourne’s 59-point loss to Richmond at the MCG on Saturday, Neeld said plenty was learned from the Monday review.

“We’ve had our coach review and gone through some things that we’d like to get better at, so it’s business as usual,” he said.

“We were in the game at quarter-time and we were certainly in the game at half-time - there was only eight points in it.”

Neeld said this week’s match was a significant one for the club, given Stynes’ contribution to Melbourne and the community at large.

“The importance of it being a Jim Stynes tribute game - it’s a great opportunity for people to come and celebrate the life of Jim Stynes … all his work with the football club and all his work in the wider community,” he said.
