THIS week, Melbourne and Essendon will come together for the 10th anniversary of the first Clash for Cancer match.
The game, at the MCG on Saturday 11 July, raises awareness and funds for Cancer Council Victoria’s work to support men battling cancer.
As part of the match, both teams will wear a special Clash for Cancer guernsey, which features a yellow armband on the left sleeve.
Melbourne fans attending the game are encouraged to help raise funds for Cancer Council Victoria by making a donation in exchange for a yellow arm band available at taping stations outside the ground.
The yellow armbands allow supporters to join the players in paying tribute to all men who have been touched by cancer.
The first Clash for Cancer match took place in 2006, when Essendon players wore yellow armbands in support of teammate Adam Ramanauskas, who had been diagnosed with cancer.
Since then, the game has grown to become an annual event.
