BALL movement coach Mark Williams runs through the 22 players who played in Melbourne’s 33-point win against Essendon at the MCG

Jamie Bennell: Hopefully this was a watershed match for Jamie - he needs to realise that when he has the ball, he’s hard to catch. His rebound off half-back was fantastic and several times he was very good with his run and carry. His speed and disposal was a highlight.

Michael Evans: Michael played his role and again collected some good possessions. He used the ball intelligently and predictably on most occasions which was pleasing. He’s picked up the pace of the game remarkably well. He will continue to improve with more games under his belt.

James Frawley: Chip won the ball well. His rebound from half-back was again a highlight, as were some of his one-on-one contests. He needs to keep building on some solid form.

Max Gawn: Maxy got a bit of a taste of the big time and took a few good marks. He also held his own in the ruck. It would’ve been great if he had finished with a goal when he had the opportunity. Max will be much better for the experience.

Brad Green: Brad led from the front. With all of the stuff that had gone on the previous week, he led by his actions and set the tone of the game. He also kicked four goals and competed tenaciously when the ball was in his area.

Jordan Gysberts: Jordie had an outstanding game. His in and under work was fantastic. The highlight of his performance was his speed and ball use. He was 80 per cent effective with his disposals, had 17 handball receives and had three inside 50s. He also had 10 scoring involvements.

Jeremy Howe: It was a fantastic debut by Jeremy. He will benefit greatly from this game. He was involved in some excellent passages of play and hit the scoreboard. Jeremy brings great attributes to our team.

Neville Jetta: Neville was involved in the game much more this week. We see his hardness every time he plays, he also kicked two goals and kicked the ball inside 50 to help set up other scoring opportunities.

Nathan Jones: Nathan helped set up some important passages of play. Jonesy’s toughness was evident again - he continues to be hard and tenacious and play his role for the team. He’s in really good form.

Liam Jurrah: Liam was in and out of the game early and settled to have a big impact in the second half . He kicked three goals and had eight scoring involvements. Liam’s an important player and is not far away from some very good form.

Joel Macdonald: Joel was hard again. He took some fantastic contested marks, including one towards the end of the game, which was really important. His switching of play was excellent, as was his spoiling and defensive work one-on-one.

Stefan Martin: Steffy probably played his best game for Melbourne. He took on three giants and beat them all. Stef had 23 hit outs and 25 disposals and was a telling influence. He had eight scoring involvements and I thought his ability to impact the game was important.

Jordie McKenzie: Jordie’s tenacity and hardness at the ball was evident. He finished the game with 13 tackles and topped our pressure points. Jordie had six scoring involvements and has worked his way into some excellent form.

Brent Moloney: Beamer’s leadership and voice was very evident on the ground. He won the ball well inside and used it very well. His spread away from stoppages was dynamic and it was great to see him kick two goals, including one outstanding effort near the end of the game.

Cale Morton: Cale was solid. He showed some fantastic pace and won some really important loose balls one-on-one. He continues to build some good form. He gives us flexibility because of the many positions he can play.

Daniel Nicholson: Daniel showed fantastic pace and poise for a player in his second game. A few of his switches were outstanding, as was his attack on the ball and some of his presses late in the game.

Jared Rivers: I haven’t seen Jared play too many better matches than what he did against Essendon. He beat the big blokes one-on-one and I don’t think he had a mark taken on him. He switched the play really well and his physicality was fantastic. His leadership also shone through.

Tom Scully: It was great to have Sculls back in the team. He gave everyone confidence, because he works hard and uses the ball so well. He had a big impact on the game and kicked a really important goal when we needed it.

James Strauss: It was great to see James win his position. He had 20 disposals at 85 per cent effectiveness and competed well one-on-one. He rebounded well off half-back and he needs to continue to use the ball to the team’s advantage.

Colin Sylvia: Col got injured early in the match. He tried to battle through, but couldn’t come back. He kicked a good goal early and looked set for a big game. Unfortunately, the injury got the better of him.

Jack Trengove: Jack was a welcome return. It was fantastic to have him back in the side. He brings hard work and smarts into our team. The players get great confidence from playing with him and his use of the ball was outstanding.

Jack Watts: Jack was very solid again. His work-rate around the ground was excellent. He took some very important marks one-on-one. He kicked a great goal at the start of the game, but the important thing was that he was still running hard at the end of the game.
