LAST TIME WE MET
Round 9, 2023 | Melbourne v Fremantle
These two sides met last season during Round 9, with the Dees welcoming the Dockers to Casey Fields. While the contest began fairly even, Melbourne pulled the momentum its way during the second and fourth terms, registering three-goal quarters.
While the clearance game was level, the Dees were getting plenty more of the ball forward of centre, with 16+ inside 50s. In typically windy conditions at Casey, Melbourne adapted to the weather best, Paxy Paxman adjusting well with 27 disposals, six score involvements and a goal.
Eden Zanker and Kate Hore both kicked two goals apiece, but the wind proved to create troubles converting, the score at the end of the day sealed at 8.13 (61) to 4.4 (28), the 33-point win.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Kate Hore | Melbourne
As skipper, Hore is an expected player to watch in the Melbourne mix, but this week in particular is an important game for the Demon. Hore has been spending time across the forward line and midfield and showed how much she can influence a game during Week 1.
Hore kicked three goals and led her side to an impressive two-point win during that first round of footy, but has only managed one goal since. This week will be integral for Hore and her team to show their strengths in enemy territory, as they look to collect their second win of 2024.
Mim Strom | Fremantle
Strom is becoming one of the best rucks within the competition. Standing at 182cm tall, the 22-year-old shows talent beyond her years, dominating hitouts (averaging 33) and demonstrating her skill at ground level with 10 clearances for the season so far.
With Melbourne’s key ruck Lauren Pearce out with injury, it’ll be integral for the Dees to use their combination of tall talent to try and restrict the impact of Strom at the stoppage.
