MELBOURNE midfielder Angus Brayshaw made a strong return for the Casey Scorpions in the VFL on Saturday. 

Playing his first game since sustaining two concussions in three weeks at the start of May, Brayshaw collected 29 disposals and kicked two goals to help power the Scorpions to a 91-point win over North Ballarat at Eureka Stadium.

After the two incidents, the Demons decided to treat the 20-year-old's recovery with caution and decided on an extended rest period before he played again.

Scorpions coach Justin Plapp told AFL.com.au Brayshaw performed well in limited minutes.

"Gus ticked a lot of boxes today. It's been a very unfortunate and frustrating period for Angus but the club has managed him really well," Plapp said.

"He came back and he looked really sharp.

"We were really pleased with the way he was able to run the game out."

Plapp said the club had not placed a timeline on when the midfielder would be ready to put his hand up for senior selection, but his form on Saturday was certainly encouraging.

"He'll be selected when the coaches think he's done the work and he's in good form. Within those four to five weeks you'd like to think he's getting close to his best," Plapp said.

Fellow midfielder James Harmes also shone in the Scorpions' big win with a best afield display.

Harmes, who played the first 11 games in the seniors, had 27 disposals and kicked three goals, but it was the manner in which he played that impressed Plapp the most.

"He played like an AFL player today and we were really rapt with his output," Plapp said.

"He showed why he's played AFL footy for most of the year."

Ruckman Jake Spencer had 52 hit-outs and kicked four goals in a standout performance, while Matt Jones had 38 disposals in his second game back from a back injury.

Small forward Jeff Garlett kicked one goal in his second straight game at VFL level, while Alex Neal-Bullen also racked up plenty of the ball (30 touches).
