THE CASEY Demons have prevailed by 12 points over Port Melbourne in a VFL pre-season encounter, with two-goal efforts from Ben Brown and Oliver Sestan highlighting the AFL Demon performances.
The match kicked off with a tight tussle, both teams eager to gain early dominance. It wasn't until the 12-minute mark when Rohan Steele capitalised on a nice delivery, slotting through the first goal for Casey Demons.
Ben Brown extended the lead shortly after, making the most of a free kick. Casey enjoyed a period of dominance, with the ball in the forward half for most of the quarter, while Port Melbourne struggled to convert their late entries into goals. At quarter time, Casey held a 10-point lead.
In the second quarter, Port Melbourne emerged strongly with the first goal of the term. However, Casey responded with pressure, exemplified by Ollie Sestan's first goal of the game.
Momentum swung back and forth as both sides fought for control of the game. Port Melbourne applied pressure with multiple inside 50s, testing the Demons' defence.
Tom Freeman's heroic spoil on the goal line saved a certain goal for Casey. The Demons managed to maintain a narrow lead, with Sestan's second goal just before the siren securing a seven-point advantage at halftime.
The Casey Demons asserted their dominance early in the third quarter, extending their lead with back-to-back goals from Ziggy Toledo and Will Verrall.
The team capitalised on the growing breeze, with Ben Brown and Harvey Neocelous adding their second goals to the tally.
Casey's control of the game was evident as they surged to a commanding 35-point lead by the three-quarter time break.
Port Melbourne fought back strongly in the final quarter, using the breeze to push deep into their attacking fifty. Back-to-back goals narrowed the gap to just 14-points, putting pressure on the Demons. However, Casey remained composed, focusing on methodical execution to counteract the wind, with no reward on the scoreboard for their efforts.
Despite Port's late surge, Casey Demons held on to secure victory with a final score of 10.1.61 to 6.13.49.
