CLAYTON Oliver has continued to make progress in his hamstring rehabilitation.

Despite being sidelined by a troublesome blister on Tuesday, High Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith confirmed that Oliver was still tracking well in his return-to-play program.

“Clayton had a really successful reconditioning session on Saturday morning with the group,” Griffith told Melbourne Media.

“Unfortunately, he has an infected blister, which prevented him from training today.

“We'll assess that day-to-day as we prep for our main training session on Friday.”

Last week, it was confirmed that forward Tom McDonald had undergone surgery, sidelining him for an extended period of time.

“Tom had been managing some ankle stiffness and soreness…unfortunately, there was a period there where he was unable to prepare himself for training,” Griffith said.

“So, after consultation with surgical advice and with how we wanted to manage Tom ongoing, it was the best decision for him to undergo surgical intervention.

“He’s responded well to that, he’s in a recovery phase at the moment and then he’ll integrate into our reconditioning protocols.”

Defender Michael Hibberd also missed the Friday night clash, with the club opting to manage the Demon as the league hits the halfway mark of the 2023 season.

“Michael was more of a management case,” Griffith said.

“With us going into three ten-day breaks, it was an opportunity to give his body a period of rest, to allow him to maximise the back end of the season.”

The sole casualty out of Friday’s match was Jake Bowey, who was subbed out of the game with concussion.

Bowey has entered the AFL’s concussion protocols, which will see him miss Monday’s match against Collingwood.

Harrison Petty continues to progress through his rehabilitation from a foot injury sustained during Round 9.

“Harrison has had some really positive couple of days, he’s integrated back into running, back into high-speed running and we’ll continue to ramp up his program in the coming days,” Griffith said.

In positive news for the team, Will Verrall (pelvis) and Luke Dunstan (knee) have both joined returned to training with the main group.

“Both Will and Luke have integrated into full training,” Griffith said.

“Luke will look to be available for selection this week while Will continues to build some loads to be available following the bye.”
