A KEY FORWARD and a crumbing small in attack may have been missing in Melbourne's 53-point loss to Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday, but coach Dean Bailey says it won't be too far before they are filled.

Waiting in the wings at Melbourne are last year's No.1 draftee Jack Watts and young dynamo Austin Wonaeamirri, who Bailey believes will add plenty to a forward line looking for further options, after the Dees posted just five goals in the second half.

Watts is still at high school and Wonaeamirri is on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, after an impressive debut season last year. Bailey said the duo will be pivotal in the team's long-term future.

"We drafted Jack Watts because he's going to be a good marking player for us and we rookied Austin Wonaeamirri, because he's a good crumbing player for us and a good kick inside 50," Bailey said post-match.

"We've got Neville Jetta there, who is going to be a good player for us. He's coming to grips with the speed of the game, but he still has a crack and he's still in there putting his head over the ball and he tackles and chases, which is fantastic for a young bloke.

"But Jack Watts is the player we've drafted, so that's why we're taking our time with getting Jack right and we're not going to rush him in."
