It’s Willy or won’t he for Scully
By Jon Ralph

TOM Scully's long-term future is no clearer to being resolved, but he is finally taking the first steps towards a senior return. Scully needs only to pass a fitness test on his injured knee to make his return for Casey in the VFL against Williamstown on Saturday. The No.1 draft pick has not played since being diagnosed with bone stress in his left kneecap. The star midfielder is expected to play at least two games at VFL level before making his senior return - possibly the Dees' marquee Queen's Birthday clash with Collingwood. The Demons desperately need reinforcements given their injury crisis, with Luke Tapscott (hamstring) joining Mark Jamar, Jack Grimes, Rohan Bail and Colin Garland on the sidelines for Friday night's MCG clash with Carlton. With Tapscott out and Jack Trengove suspended for another week, the Dees must decide whether to recall out-of-favour Cale Morton to the line-up.

Just when Davey looked safe, knee lets him down
By Michael Gleeson

AARON Davey, badly out of form and struggling to hold his place in the Melbourne side, might yet be out of the team this week because of a knee injury. Davey will see a specialist on Friday before making a decision on whether he is fit to play against Carlton that night. The Demons were unable to see the specialist before Friday and so will have to leave it to the last minute. He will not train beforehand. ''He has knee soreness and at this stage he is doubtful to play,'' football manager Chris Connolly said yesterday. ''It's not like an ACL or a strained medial or lateral ligament, it's just discomfort. He has not ripped it or torn anything but is suffering soreness so, at worst, it would be a week or two. The soreness came up in the knee [early this week].'' Meanwhile, star young midfielder Tom Scully is likely to finally play his first game for the year this week. He will train all week and be re-assessed with a view to playing for Casey in the VFL.
