SENIOR assistant coach Simon Goodwin says Melbourne must concentrate on its own game rather than being too Hawthorn focused, when Demons take on the Hawks at the MCG on Saturday.
The future Melbourne senior coach said he was fully aware of what Hawthorn would bring to the table, but added that it was critical his team played to its strengths.
“We know what Hawthorn is going to bring. They’re going to bring a game that’s highly contested and they move the ball extremely well and they defend well, and that’s why they’re a good side,” he told Dee TV.
“It is about how we play, and we’ve got some things we need to sort out, to really take it up to the Hawks.”
Goodwin said the Demons were “on the right path” but needed to stick to its game plan.
“We need to do some things with our own game plan that’s drifted a bit in the last three or four weeks from earlier in the season,” he said.
“It really is about our game and how we’re going to get it back to a level to play the way we want to play.
“We thought in the second half [against the Sydney Swans last round] it came back a little bit and that was one of the things to come out of the game.”
