Round four
Sunday, April 15, 3.20pm
Hawthorn v Melbourne, MCG
First quarter: Melbourne 5.5 (35) to Hawthorn 3.5 (23)
Hawthorn got off to a flyer when Luke Breust kicked truly within the first 25 seconds.
But when Dean Kent opened Melbourne’s account – and booted the first of three goals for the term – the red and blue jumped out to a 21-point lead.
Jesse Hogan, who had 12 disposals for the term, also landed his first, as the Demons had seven scoring shots in succession during a dominant 10-minute period.
Jack Gunston landed Hawthorn’s second at the 21-minute mark, but when Christian Salem secured Melbourne’s fifth for the term, the Dees were back out to a 19-point margin.
Breust bobbed up with the Hawks’ third just before the first break and at quarter-time Melbourne led by 12 points.

Second quarter: Hawthorn 7.5 (47) to Melbourne 5.9 (39)
Once again, Breust kicked the first for the term, when he secured his third major in the opening minute.
It proved to be a strong quarter from the Hawks, as they booted four in a row to take an eight-point advantage into half-time.
Melbourne managed just four behinds – two from Tom Bugg, one from Jake Melksham and another from Jeff Garlett.
It proved to be a frustrating quarter from the red and blue, as it entered the main break, having had 14 scoring shots to 12.
Alex Neal-Bullen and Hogan had 16 touches each entering the third term.

Third quarter: Hawthorn 11.7 (73) to Melbourne 5.11 (41)
Much like the second term, Hawthorn dominated the third quarter.
The brown and gold broke away to a 33-point lead at the 23-minute mark, and at three quarter-time led by 32 points.
The Hawks added four goals to zip for the term, meaning they landed nine goals in a row.
Salem’s major at the 29-minute mark of the first term was Melbourne’s most recent goal.
Bugg’s fourth behind and a rushed point were the only red and blue scores in the third quarter.
Final quarter: Hawthorn 18.7 (115) d Melbourne 6.12 (48)
Gunston booted his second to start the final term, giving the Hawks 10 unanswered goals.
That streak finally ended when Neal-Bullen got his first for the day at the seven-minute mark.
But any thought of a Melbourne comeback was quickly thwarted when the Hawks turned it on again, booting the last … goals.
In the end, the Hawks smashed the Demons by 67 points.
Hawk Liam Shiels finished with a game-high 31 disposals, while Breust kicked four majors. Clayton Oliver was Melbourne’s leading ball-winner with 29 possessions.
