MELBOURNE has rushed back midfielder Nathan Jones and included utility Jamie Bennell for Saturday’s clash against Richmond at the MCG.

But the Demons have lost versatile tall James Sellar (thigh) and, as expected, young defender Tom McDonald, who suffered bleeding on the lung, after a collision with Lion Daniel Merrett last round.

Jones returns after he was a late withdrawal against the Lions at the Gabba last round, due to a calf injury. It was just the fifth time he has missed an AFL match since making his debut in round 17, 2006.

“It’s disappointing to lose both James and Tom,” football manager Josh Mahoney said.

“Both have been in good form, playing in defence.

“But it’s pleasing that Nathan was able to recover after being a late withdrawal last week.”

Ruckman Mark Jamar was also a late withdrawal with a calf injury last Sunday, but he will miss again this round.

Bennell will make his fifth appearance for the season, with his most recent coming against Carlton in round nine.

McDonald will miss one to two weeks with his lung injury, which happened in the early stages of the opening term last round.

He was forced to return to Melbourne from Brisbane via a vehicle, as he was not able to fly due to his injury.

Sellar, who has played 10 matches in his first season at Melbourne, after playing 21 games with Adelaide from 2008-11, could be a chance to return next round.

Meanwhile, midfielder/forward Matthew Bate will play his 100th AFL game.
