JIM STYNES has outlined his plans if, as expected, he is elected Melbourne president this week.

Speaking on radio, two hours after the departing Paul Gardner endorsed Stynes’ ticket, the Brownlow medallist said he had big plans for the club he represented on the field 265 times.

Speaking on Channel 10, Stynes did not name any of the people on his ticket but said they would bring passion and wisdom to the board.

“We’ve got a lot of people who have been on the board and working really hard. They’ve been there a few years and it’s like a team, you’ve got to bring in new recruits to reinvigorate the list,” Stynes said.

“We’re trying to do that with the board, bring in some new people who have not been that close to it in the past. They’ve got a lot of success behind them, a lot of business experience and a lot of wisdom.”

Stynes said the club would only emerge from its current difficulties if it had support from its fans.

“Look at the other strong Melbourne clubs and they’ve got really big supporter bases. That’s what it’s all about – the fans,” he said.

“We’ve got to get our fans, our members to sign up so we can start to compete with the likes of the Collingwoods and Carltons.”

Stynes scoffed at Hawthorn president Jeff Kennett’s recommendation that he look to move the club to Queensland.

“I hear Jeff Kennett say go to the Gold Coast. That’s just crap,” Stynes said.

“We pride ourselves on being Melbourne. This is my only club and I want to make sure it is here for a long time to come.”
