COACH Paul Roos says Melbourne simply “capitulated” after half-time against Greater Western Sydney at StarTrack Oval on Saturday, when it went from a 32-point lead in the second quarter to a 45-point loss.

Speaking post-match, Roos said the coaching panel would hone in on the result to find the answers.

“It’s something as a coaching group we’ve got to take responsibility [for] because it’s just unacceptable,” he said.

Roos said his side didn’t try hard enough after the main break, resulting in the shocking second half.

“You can do all the things in the world, but you can’t stop momentum, when the other team’s trying at 100 per cent,” he said.

“We haven’t got a margin for error – as most of the bottom teams don’t have. If you play at 100 per cent, you work flat out, but you’re still not going to beat some of the other teams, but it at least gives you a chance.

“As soon as that drops off, you’re no chance to [win] and that’s when nine goals get kicked against you [in the third quarter].”
