CO-CAPTAIN Jack Grimes could be sidelined for another one to two matches, according to coach Paul Roos.
Speaking post-match after Melbourne’s 23-point loss to the Brisbane Lions at Etihad Stadium on Sunday, Roos said Grimes was forced to miss his first game of the season after hurting his hamstring after originally being named in the side last Thursday night.
“It happened [last] Friday and it happened at training. You don’t give too much of a medical update after that other than the fact that we knew that he was out,” he said.
“We’ll have more of a discussion about it. I don’t think it was a super serious one, but you’ve only got four games to go.”
But Roos said Grimes was likely to play again this year.
“I think he will, but whether it’s a one or two-week [injury], I’m not too sure,” he said.
Roos said tough-nut Luke Tapscott would be monitored after hurting his knee in the second half against the Lions. He was subbed out of the match, due to the set-back.
“He warmed up a bit. It was one of those 50/50 things. Could he go back on or couldn’t he go back on? We had to hurry up and make the decision because he’d been off for a while and it impacts the guys’ ability to rotate and get off the ground,” he said.
“He had the knee [injury] against Port that he came off and then back on. It’s been sore. He trained Wednesday and trained Friday – whether it’s a reoccurrence of that, I’m not sure.”
Cam Pedersen suffered a bloody nose, but Roos said the key forward should be OK.
“He was more coming off for the blood rule. He seemed fine when he went back on,” he said.
