MELBOURNE will be forced to make at least one change in Round 14, after Tom Sparrow suffered a collarbone injury against the Dogs.
But there could be some other movement, if the Demons decide to mix things up following their 28-point loss last weekend.
Take a look at some potential inclusions for Saturday night’s clash with St Kilda.
Max Gawn
If fit, Max Gawn will obviously play.
The club’s performance manager, Darren Burgess, said the ruckman will be ready to go by the end of the week, so barring any hiccups at training, expect to see Gawn return.
But after two strong performances by Braydon Preuss, it will be interesting to see who makes way for the skipper.
Nathan Jones
Nathan Jones was a late withdrawal at Metricon Stadium with quad tightness, but there was no severe damage and he’ll be available for selection in Round 14.
You would expect the 32-year-old to slot straight back into the line-up, although he has found himself outside the best 22 on a number of occasions in 2020.
Jayden Hunt
If the Demons are looking for a new mix inside 50, Jayden Hunt is in line for a recall.
The defender-turned-forward has put together a number of strong performances in the club’s practice matches and is waiting for a spot to open up in the senior side.
After a flat week for the Melbourne small forwards, Hunt could potentially get his chance.
Oscar McDonald and Joel Smith
Team balance is what is keeping this defensive duo out of the side, but the Dees may look for some additional talls in Alice Springs.
Adam Tomlinson has been assisting Steven May and Jake Lever in recent times, but with his ability to play on all sizes, another key backman could get a chance.
Oscar McDonald and Joel Smith are doing battle for the same spot, and performed equally as well in Sunday’s practice match at Maroochydore Sports Complex.
It’d be tough to squeeze them in, but there would be benefits in including either of these men.
Other options
Melbourne’s list depth is in a strong position at the moment, which will hold it in good stead over the coming weeks.
With the compressed fixture about to hit, the Dees will need to use a range of players across the next four games, and there are plenty with their hand up.
Trent Rivers, Harley Bennell, Josh Wagner and Corey Wagner are among those who could earn a spot at some point, and perform a role for their side when required.
