MELBOURNE will wear its 2020 Indigenous guernsey when it takes on St Kilda in Alice Springs this Saturday.

The Demons, who debuted the special design in Sir Doug Nicholls Round, will again pull on the guernsey for the Heart of the Nation match, to be played at TIO Traeger Park.

Designed by defender and proud Noongar man Neville Jetta, the jumper is one that is rich in culture and pride.

“My artwork tells a story of connection,” Jetta told Melbourne Media.

Kaartdijin Kura Yey Boodja is knowledge of the past and the present land.

“Having a deep ancestral bond allows us to carry an understanding of who we are, where we are from and where we are going – always knowing that we will find our way home.”

It will be the first time Melbourne visits the Northern Territory this year, having not played in Alice Springs since Round 18 of the 2019 season.

Heading to the Red Centre has been a special part of the Demons’ fixture in recent years, with the club involved in various community programs and developments.

Its biggest is that of the Santa Teresa Oval Project.

What first began as an oval made up entirely of clay has now transformed into the ‘MCG of the Desert’, with green grass covering the ground.

While plans to officially open the oval to the community have been put on hold due to COVID-19, its progress is incredibly rewarding for all those involved.
