A LOSS to the Western Bulldogs in Round 13 has seen one Demon poll in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award.
Defender Steven May was the only Melbourne player worthy of recognition from the coaches, with the 28-year-old earning two votes for his efforts at Metricon Stadium.
May was rock solid for the Dees, finishing with 15 disposals, 13 of which were kicks, six marks and six intercepts in the 28-point defeat.
He also managed an 87-percent disposal efficiency and registered 401 metres gained – second behind Christian Petracca.
The Bulldogs’ Marcus Bontempelli was deemed the best player on the ground, receiving nine votes for his 22-disposal performance, while Lachie Hunter (24 disposals) and Mitch Wallis (four goals) were each awarded five votes.
Tom Liberatore was the next best for the red, blue and white, collecting four votes, with Bailey Smith (three votes), Jack Macrae (one vote) and Jason Johannisen (one vote) rounding out the top performers.
Petracca now sits in third position on the interim leaderboard with 54 votes. Brisbane’s Lachie Neale remains atop, followed by Port Adelaide’s Travis Boak. The leaderboard is currently being updated following each day’s matches.
