AFTER making three changes to its side for last weekend’s clash with Collingwood, Melbourne may opt for minimal change in Round 13.
With three consecutive wins on the board for the first time since last season, the Demons look to have found their groove, although they would certainly benefit from a fit and firing skipper.
Take a look at four potential additions for Saturday’s clash with the Western Bulldogs at Metricon Stadium.
Max Gawn
After missing the past two matches with a knee concern, Max Gawn will be itching to get back out there this weekend.
The Demons’ skipper is close to being ready, but he will need to pass a fitness test and tick a few boxes in order to run out on Saturday afternoon.
If he’s not cherry ripe, Melbourne will be counting on Braydon Preuss to manage things in the ruck again, despite the 25-year-old leaving the training track early on Wednesday.
Jayden Hunt
Jayden Hunt has been in strong form in recent weeks and could get the call up if the Demons want to add another option up forward.
The 25-year-old sat out of Friday’s scratch match due to being the carry over emergency in Round 12, but has continued to impress at training and would add some more pace to the line-up.
Having not played a senior game since Round 5, Hunt will be pushing for another chance this weekend.
The only question is who makes way for him.
Mitch Brown
Mitch Brown has featured just once for the Demons, making his Melbourne debut back in Round 1 at Optus Stadium.
The former Bomber’s biggest strength is his versatility, which could come in handy, should the Dees be without a ruckman in Gawn or Preuss.
His recent training efforts and experience will certainly put him in the mix this week.
Trent Rivers
Trent Rivers was unlucky to lose his spot last week, after collecting 14 disposals in a solid performance against North Melbourne the week prior.
The youngster was another strong contributor in Melbourne’s practice match, spending some time through the midfield and showcasing his run around the contest.
With four games now under his belt, his attack and fearlessness could see his name discussed at the selection table.
