MELBOURNE president Jim Stynes says he is rapt to see new recruit Mitch Clark claim his old No.11 jumper from next year.

The number has been vacant since Paul Johnson finished up with the Demons at the end of the 2010 season. But the No.11 jumper will be back on the paddock in 2012.

“We didn’t have a No.11 last year, so it’s good to have someone in there and a big fella,” Stynes said at Gosch’s Paddock on Monday.

“Hopefully he’s going to do some good stuff, because we’ve been lacking a bit of height.”

Stynes said he was a fan of the way the former Brisbane Lion went about his football.

“He’s got a little bit of spunk about him. He’s not afraid to have a crack,” he said.

“He’s tall and he’s got a bit of muscle about him, so hopefully he can help some of our boys down forward.

“We haven’t had a lot of [players with] weight in the forward line, so hopefully he’ll give us some.”

Stynes said Clark was “honoured” when he was informed he would be wearing the 1991 Brownlow Medallist’s jumper.

“He said he was looking forward to it. He’s had an interesting career and it’s something that we’ve lacked a little bit - a little bit of colour in our team,” he said.

“If anything, he’s unafraid to have a go and a crack and that’s something that we really need - we need to mix it.

“The proof will be when he gets out there and starts to play.”

As for what he thought of Clark’s ‘sleeve’, Stynes said it mattered little.

“I’ve never [got a tattoo], but my wife has,” he said.

“I’ve stayed away from it.

“It doesn’t worry me. If it helps you perform, then do what you have to do.”
