MELBOURNE has finished the 2012 Gillette AFL free agency and trade period with seven new players, including Claremont young-gun Jesse Hogan, who will be officially listed in 2014.

The Demons snared four players with AFL experience - Collingwood forward Chris Dawes, Geelong goalsneak Shannon Byrnes, Port Adelaide livewire David Rodan and North Melbourne tall Cameron Pedersen.

Dawes played in the 2010 Collingwood flag and Byrnes was a dual premiership player in 2007 and 2009 victories.

Rodan is the most experienced, with 176 AFL matches to his name, including the 2007 Grand Final.

Pedersen has played 16 matches in two AFL seasons, winning North Melbourne’s best first year player award in 2011.

Midfielder Jack Viney, claimed via the father/son rule, is regarded as one of the best young talents in the country.

Dominic Barry, hailing from the Northern Territory, will add pace and skill to the mix.

Hogan, who many regarded as a likely top three to five selection in next year’s NAB AFL Draft, was snapped up this year, as a 17-year-old trade incentive selection.

The Demons also acquired several picks:
- Round three selection (currently number 53) from the Brisbane Lions
- Round four selection (currently number 73) from the Brisbane Lions
- Round four selection (currently number 74) from Richmond, via North Melbourne on-trade
- Round five selection (currently number 88) received back via on-trades from Port Adelaide, West Coast

Several Demons have also joined new clubs during this period: Jordan Gysberts (North Melbourne), Stefan Martin (Brisbane Lions), Brent Moloney (Brisbane Lions), Cale Morton (West Coast Eagles) and Jared Rivers (Geelong Cats).
