Casey player review
Midfield assistant coach Aaron Greaves runs through the Melbourne-listed players from Casey’s win over Geelong in the VFL at Simonds Stadium on Saturday
Jamie Bennell: Jamie was really good off half-back. He rebounded well and won his one on ones. He’s been in good form in the past few weeks.
Sam Blease: Sam increased his work rate and was very good offensively, providing great run and carry. He’s starting to develop some consistency.
Lucas Cook: It was Cook’s first VFL senior game after coming back from injury. He kicked two goals and marked strongly and presented well in the second half. Lucas will get better with more game time.
Tom Couch: Couch was again really strong around the stoppages and contested situations. He’s still looking to develop areas of his game to get him to AFL level. Tom’s been consistently in the best players and his work ethic has been fantastic.
Troy Davis: Troy played like a strong defender. His contested work was really good. Troy’s working on his rebounding and offensive side of his game. But he defended really strongly.
Jack Fitzpatrick: Jack got reward for his consistent form. He’s been around the mark, but hasn’t been able to put the score on the board in the past few weeks. He took nine marks and led up really well as a tall forward and ruckman. Again, he’s another who has been in really good form. He’s growing in confidence each week.
Jordan Gysberts: Jordan unfortunately had his jaw broken and will now miss the next four to six weeks. It was his first game back from injury.
Liam Jurrah: It was Liam’s first game back. He was clean and his ball use was exceptional for a person who hadn’t played this year. He will get better with more games under his belt over the next few weeks.
Kelvin Lawrence: Kelvin played probably his best game at VFL level. He was a lot cleaner and covered the ground really well and linked up. He gave Casey great drive through the middle of the ground and was involved in several shots on goal.
Daniel Nicholson: Daniel has been in really good nick in the past few weeks. He has played as a midfielder, but has also gone back and has been developing as a small defender. As a defender, his attack on the ball was great. He gave great run and drive and he was hard to match up on in the midfield with his running ability.
Ricky Petterd: Ricky has been in good form in the past few weeks in the VFL. He’s been strong and hard in the contest and has been marking the ball well. He kicked a couple of important goals and showed good leadership in the VFL side.
Jai Sheahan: Jai played as a tall defender. He had some really good contested aerial work, so he showed great improvement there. His ball use out of defensive 50 was a highlight and he gave great run and drive from behind the footy. He’s starting to really develop some strength and confidence in his body.
Jake Spencer: It was Jake’s third game back from a knee injury. He played in the ruck and went up against an experienced player in Orren Stephenson. Jake really tested him, by pushing forward 50 and he also kicked a goal. He gave our mids first use and he’s getting better each week.
Rory Taggert: It was Rory’s second game. He spread really hard and his ball use was exceptional. He’s still developing his match fitness, but we’ll see his best footy over the next few weeks.
Jack Watts: Jack kicked four goals. He was offensively very good and he worked on developing his contested aerial work.
