MELBOURNE dynamo Aaron Davey and much-improved big-man Paul Johnson will miss the rest of the season due to injury.

Davey missed last Friday night's 116-point loss to Geelong with a foot injury, sustained the previous round against Essendon, although Johnson, who has a hip injury, played against the Cats.

Melbourne football operations manager Ross Monaghan told melbournefc.com.au that the duo would not play again in 2008.

"Aaron came off during the Essendon game with a sore heel … The first thought was that he'd thought he'd been kicked in the heel accidentally and he was treated for a bruised heel over the course of the next week, based on those symptoms," Monaghan said.

"But he hasn't come good and that's why he didn't play last week … He's had x-rays and scans and that's showed that he's got significant bruising, which also indicates that there is probably a little stress fracture in there as well.

"He doesn't have to have surgery, but it means that he's got to wear a moonboot for about four or five weeks, until it repairs properly.

"So that's the end of his season, obviously."

On Johnson's hip injury, Monaghan said: "It would be a major problem long-term, if it was not repaired now."

"He's got to have that repaired and he's going to have that done early next week, so that's why he won't play this week."

Meanwhile, key forward Brad Miller (hamstring) will face a fitness test before he is declared available to face West Coast at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.

"He's been doing all of the training, so he's got to be tested to see if he can play this week or not," Monaghan said of Miller, who has missed the past two matches.

Defender Daniel Bell (hamstring) is also a possibility to play against West Coast, but young-gun Colin Garland (hamstring), who did not play against Geelong, is expected to miss one more match.
