COACH Mark Neeld says his side’s immediate challenge is to play “high, intense footy for longer than a half”.

Speaking post-match after West Coast smashed his side by 108 points, Neeld said it was also important his players adhered to the mantra “your role, play your role”.

He added that West Coast played with “precision” and it was about getting to that stage.

“The players have an ability to understand where they’re at,” he said.

“That said, the Eagles are pretty slick. They’ve very slick. We’ve got a young group, a new game plan and that takes time.

“The Eagles haven’t just clicked their fingers and gone from lower on extremely higher on the ladder - they’ve been building at that for a while.”

Neeld was pleased with the efforts of second-gamer James Magner, late inclusion Tom McDonald, All-Australian defender James Frawley, and the emerging Jeremy Howe.

He also praised the five-goal performance of key forward Mitch Clark.

“I thought Mitch Clark’s response was positive,” he said.

Meanwhile, versatile big man Stef Martin was a late withdrawal due to a hip injury.

“We trained [on Friday] at Claremont and he was just too sore to play,” Neeld said of Martin.
