DESPITE booting an equal career-best five goals against West Coast at Patersons Stadium on Saturday, key forward Mitch Clark says it meant little after his side was smashed by 108 points.

The boom recruit twice kicked a bag of five for the Lions, and on this occasion managed to score more than half of Melbourne’s goals against the Eagles. The Demons kicked nine for the match.

Clark was one of Melbourne’s shining lights in an otherwise dismal day. He said there was “not much” to draw from the game, with the team being comprehensively beaten.

“It’s nice to get on the end of a few, but we just need more blokes contributing up forward and through the midfield,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

Clark said the players would hurt from the loss, but move on quickly. In the process, he praised a dominant West Coast outfit.

“They’re a bloody good side, the Eagles,” he said.

“We got what we deserved, and it showed how far we have to go to get up to their level.

“We know that we just need to prepare well, and keep building by having consistent weeks on the track. Hopefully it’ll start to show in our performances.”

Clark said his side started in a similar fashion as round one, before falling away.

“It was the same against the Lions,” he said.

“The first half was pretty competitive and then [the opposition] jumped away later in the game.

“We just need to get better at playing four quarter footy and that’ll come … hopefully we don’t have to wait too long.”
