Melbourne has invited four more players to train with its squad in the lead-up to the December 13 NAB AFL Rookie Draft
MELBOURNE has invited four more players to train with its squad in the lead-up to the December 13 NAB AFL Rookie Draft.
They are Freddie Clutterbuck (East Perth), Carl Nicolson (Glenelg), Fletcher Roberts (Sandringham Dragons) and Jai Sheahan (Geelong Falcons).
They join Tom Couch (Collingwood VFL), who started training with the club, before last Thursday’s NAB AFL Draft.
Couch was not selected in last week’s Draft, but remains a possibility to be selected in the Rookie Draft.
Clutterbuck, Nicolson, Roberts and Sheahan were overlooked in the NAB AFL Draft and they too are now in the rookie mix.
Melbourne hasn’t committed to any of these five players, but it gives the Demons an opportunity to look at them in an AFL environment.
The Dees have no vacancies on their primary list and will not participate in the NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft.
Melbourne filled its primary list last Thursday night, when it selected Rory Taggert (selection No.36), Josh Tynan (No.52) and former Crow James Sellar (No.54).
The Demons have four rookie list vacancies and will therefore have the same number of selections in the Rookie Draft.
Melbourne has retained Michael Evans, Kelvin Lawrence and Daniel Nicholson as second-year rookies.
Robert Campbell, Cameron Johnston, Tom McNamara and Michael Newton, who were rookies in 2011, were delisted by Melbourne when the first list lodgement was submitted on October 31.
The AFL released its permission to train list on Monday.
