MELBOURNE dynamo Aaron Davey says one of his football dreams is to play in the same red and blue side with his five Indigenous teammates.

Davey, speaking in the lead-up to his 100th AFL match against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Sunday, says it is an ambition of his to line-up along side Matthew Whelan, Austin Wonaeamirri, Neville Jetta, Jamie Bennell and Liam Jurrah.

"It'd just be a special game for me. There is a special bond between the six of us and it's something you can't buy. Those guys are mine and Matty Whelan's little brothers – we're just a close bunch of guys," he said on Tuesday from Casey Fields.

The 25-year-old said with the debuts of Jetta and Bennell early in the season, Jurrah showing some form with Casey and Whelan getting closer to returning from a calf injury, the reality could be sooner rather than later.

"You never know, hopefully we can get to play. Matty Whelan has got his 150th this year, so that could be something even more special for us," Davey said.

"Matty and Aussie are regular stars in our best 22 and Liam is playing great footy, so there is a chance that it may happen. I'm hoping it will happen sometime soon.

"[It would be great], not only the Melbourne Football Club, but also our supporters and families as well."

Along with Whelan, Davey said taking the likes of Wonaeamirri, Jetta, Bennell and Jurrah under his wing, had helped him develop.

"It has not only been better for me to become a leader, but also for Aussie, who has come out of his shell now," he said.

"I remember when I came here, Matty Whelan looked after me and it took me a couple of years before I actually started speaking up for myself.

"Matty's been sensational and whatever he's taught me I've taken that role on and tried to help out with the other four Indigenous boys. I have them around once a week, so it's been good to have them mixing in with all of the other boys."

Davey said Jurrah, who hails from the remote town of Yuendumu in central Australia, is progressing with his Victorian acclimatisation.

"He's fitted in really well and is coming out of his shell. You've got to get them coming out of their shell and mixing in with the guys and that's what Liam has done," he said.

"He's been playing some real good footy at Casey, so hopefully he keeps that up and who's to say he won't get a call up in the next couple of weeks.”
