The versatile tall, who collected a career-high 34 disposals playing out of defence, said it was quite simply a miserable match for the Demons.
“It was. You can’t really defend a 100-point loss and that’s what it was,” he told melbournefc.com.au.
“It’s weird, because the preparation we had coming into it was spot on - we couldn’t fault it - so we’ve just got to stick at it.
“We can’t explain it … and it’s very frustrating. It’s frustrating for us, for Mark [Neeld] and for the coaches.”
He said the feeling among the players was right on the mark, entering the match.
“We picked an exciting team and we knew what we were going to do,” Watts said.
“We did a lot of preparation on Sydney - and on our own game - and what we wanted to do on our own game, was to move the ball. It was all spot on and we felt really confident about it.
“Sydney was able to shut us down and get us on our terms.”
Watts said it was a trying match to play, because the Swans “got a roll-on”.
“A lot of time it’s just these little things that happen in a certain contest ... it just feels like it’s going the opposition’s way,” he said.
“But we’re working really hard and that’s all we can do. We’re all sticking together and believing in what we’re doing and it’s going to turn around.
“You can’t say much more than that. It was disappointing, but we’ll stick at it.”
