Match preview: St Kilda v Melbourne
By Will Brodie
What to make of a clash between two teams that had the most debilitating losses of their seasons at their previous outing? Changes will be made at both clubs, but do they address each team's issues? At Melbourne, sturdy tall defender Jared Rivers will bolster the defence, and fellow half-backs Cale Morton and Joel Macdonald could be called upon, but the real issue for the Demons is around the ball, where they currently miss Tom Scully, Jack Trengove and Mark Jamar. Tenacious tagger Jordie McKenzie was named in the best for Melbourne's feeder team Casey Scorpions, but it was his first game of the season, and it would be too much to expect him to make a major impact at senior level two weeks into his comeback. Simply put, Melbourne cannot replace any loss of class at the stoppages, they just don't have the depth of strong bodied midfield stars. Even the sporadic North Melbourne on-ball unit overwhelmed the Demons last week once it nullified prolific ball-winner Brent Moloney. Desperate Saints boss Ross Lyon would have taken note - expect Moloney, a clearance king under Jamar, to get close attention again this week.
