NEW DEMON David Rodan says the team’s second training session in Darwin was far superior to the first one held two days earlier.

The Demons trained at the picturesque Gardens Oval in Darwin on Sunday, and Rodan said it was another “pretty tough” session. But he was adamant the Dees went to another level, having made some adjustments to the heat and humidity.

“The boys are still getting used to the conditions, but the quality of training and what the boys prepared themselves for was a lot better than the first training session,” he said.

“This time, the boys knew what was required to influence and attack this session and the quality was fantastic.

“I think the coach was pretty happy.”

The ex-Tiger and former Power midfielder/forward said the players made sure they had adequate breaks, and hydrated in the cooler part of the ground, on the opposite side to the Hunter Harrison Stand.

“It was hot, so the boys tried to stay in the shade for as long as possible, trying to keep cool,” he said.

“The boys were really professional and once they got out here, they got the job done.

“The boys trained really, really well and we are all looking forward to the next few sessions we have up here.”

Rodan, who was gained in the trade period after 176 AFL matches with Richmond and Port Adelaide, said he had already relished the opportunity to get to know his teammates better on the camp.

“It’s always great when you go away, you get to know a lot of the boys,” he said.

“A lot of them are younger than me, but it’s good to get amongst them.

“It’s good to mix with the guys because it’s been a massive turnaround [on the list], so there are a lot of new guys coming through. It’s good to get to know each other and really bond.”

Aside from sharing his football knowledge with some of the younger brigade, Rodan said a few had also asked him for some dancing tips.

“Jack Viney has asked if I can give him some dancing lessons, so I think we’ve got some time later on to hopefully teach him some,” he said with a smile.

“I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing - I think I’m getting a lot more respect for my dancing than my football.

“I think the boys like to dance as well, they are all closet dancers, but it’s just a bit of fun and they all get a laugh out of it.”
