MELBOURNE is saddened to hear of the passing of 1941 premiership player Stan ‘Pops’ Heal.

Heal, 90, passed away during the early hours of Wednesday morning in Western Australia.

A star in Western Australia, Heal was continually wooed by Victorian-based clubs to play in the then VFL.

Although he was set to join Collingwood, he ended up playing eight matches for Melbourne, including the ’41 flag.

Incredibly, he played in West Perth’s premiership a week after playing in Melbourne’s third consecutive flag and fifth overall.

Heal also represented Western Australia in state football.

In 2010, Heal reconnected with Melbourne, when he was inducted in the Australian Football Hall of Fame.

He then attended Melbourne’s Foundation Heroes function in August.
