EXCITING Melbourne recruit Liam Jurrah has impressed club officials with a three-goal performance while playing for affiliate VFL team Casey Scorpions on the weekend.

Melbourne football operations manager Craig Notman said the indigenous forward's efforts were pleasing, considering he hails from remote Central Australia and is still being prepared for the rigours of the AFL.

"He kicked three goals, which was pleasing. His second quarter was the standout and he kicked a couple of goals the previous week, so he's building steadily, which is quite exciting," Notman told melbournefc.com.au.

"He's enjoying being in game mode now, as opposed to plugging along in training sessions."

Ruckman John Meesen, who was an emergency against North Melbourne in round one, also played well for Casey, as did second-year forward Addam Maric.

"Addam kicked a few goals the previous week at Casey and he followed up with another lively performance," Notman said.

"He continued to work on the defensive side of his game and he was very good in the attacking sense – he probably just needs to work on being a player who can go both ways."
