Melbourne youngster Jordan Gysberts will make his AFL debut this weekend, when he runs out against the Cats on Saturday afternoon.

Gysberts was selected with pick 11 in the 2009 National Draft, and has been starring at VFL level, thoroughly earning his opportunity to wear the red and blue. He is the fifth Melbourne player to make his AFL debut this year, following Scully, Trengove and Strauss’ debuts in Round One, and the debut of Hughes in Round Seven.

General Manager of Football, Chris Connolly, told melbournefc.com.au, “Jordan has been in a really good patch of form. His work around the clearances in the VFL has been particularly strong, and his selection at senior AFL level is well deserved.”

Gysberts is one of three changes made at the selection table, with Matthew Warnock returning to the fold as well as Cameron Bruce, who comes back after missing last week with a hamstring injury.

Young midfielders Tom Scully and Jack Trengove have been rested this week, and Jordie McKenzie was omitted.

“Tom and Jack have been playing consistently for 13 weeks when you include the NAB Cup. We said at the start of the season that first year players were going to need a rest at some stage, and this is as good an opportunity as any to do this. Coming back from Darwin, we felt these guys would really benefit from having the week off, and give their bodies time to rest and recover.” Connolly said.

Melbourne will have its final training session at Skilled Stadium on Friday afternoon.
