COACH Mark Neeld says playing Geelong at Simonds Stadium is the toughest test in football.

Speaking after his side’s 43-point loss to Geelong at the cattery on Saturday, Neeld indicated it was akin to playing across the Nullarbor.

“Going to Perth is tough, but I reckon this rates as the toughest road trip, even though it might only be 60 minutes down the road from Melbourne,” he said.

“I reckon in a couple of years’ time, if we come back and get the same result, it’ll be more disappointing.”

Although Melbourne battled hard, Neeld said it was a performance that had “bits and pieces of everything”.

“There were some frustrating moments and there were some moments where I thought we had a fair bit of momentum, which was good,” he said.

“There were moments where the Cats had some momentum and they’re a very polished side as we know.

“We were disappointed to come down and get beaten by six or seven goals, but there are some things that we’re starting to see that we’re pleased with.”
