MELBOURNE has appointed the highly-credentialed David Misson to the role of fitness manager.

Misson, regarded as one of Australia’s best and most versatile fitness coaches, comes to Melbourne following a four-year stint at St Kilda, where he was elite performance manager.

He also worked with Sydney Swans from 2001-07 and was instrumental in the Swans’ 2005 premiership - their first in 72 years.

New Melbourne coach Mark Neeld said he was delighted to secure Misson.

“I’m thrilled with the appointment. I’m looking forward to working with him,” he said.

“He has an outstanding track record and is an outstanding person with a skill set that will add plenty to the Melbourne Football Club.”

Before his entry into the AFL, Misson was fitness advisor with the Australian national cricket team from 1998-2000.

He has also worked with elite sporting teams including the Wallabies, Waratahs, Cricket NSW, North Sydney Bears, Tennis Australia, NSWIS track and field and Sydney Swifts.

In December 2010, Misson released a book called ‘The Bubble: Inside the Saints in 2010’. It documented a year inside St Kilda Football Club.

He was also speed development consultant with Australian rugby union (1994-97), fitness coach NSW cricket (1997-2005), fitness coach Tennis Australia (1994-97), head conditioner North Sydney Rugby League Club (1996-97), NSW Institute of Sport track and field coach, sprints and hurdles (1996-98) and fitness trainer Sydney Swifts netball team (1996-2007).
