Trengove had a season-high 23 disposals and kicked two goals against the Giants.
Although he wasn’t entirely happy with his game, Trengove was pleased with his overall recent form.
“I probably turned the footy over a bit more than I would’ve liked. But it was good to get my hands on the footy a bit more, and it’s something that I’ve been trying to work on this season,” he told melbournefc.com.au.
“Some games haven’t really gone my way, but [I’ve] been practicing and trying to improve them. It’s starting to show through in the back end of the season.
“Hopefully I can finish off this season well and then take it into a big pre-season.”
Playing in just Melbourne’s fourth win of the season, Trengove said it was a relief to taste victory, although GWS hit back with five goals to two in the final term.
“We haven’t had the chance to sing the song too often, so it was great to get over the line in the end,” he said.
“We missed a lot of opportunities in the second and third quarter, and we played pretty good footy and got a lot of inside 50s. We just couldn’t convert on the scoreboard, which was quite disappointing, but the breeze was pretty swirly out there. It was pretty challenging.
“It was a bit disappointing we couldn’t really finish off in the last quarter and the second half especially, but it was great to get four points.”
Trengove said the cool, windy Canberra conditions also played a part in the match.
“Coming into the game, we thought there was a chance that there might be snow, and that would’ve been a first for a few boys,” he said.
“It was pretty chilly, but once we warmed up and got into the game, it was all right.
“The wind was a bit of an issue, and there were probably a few kicks seen in the stands and on TV that were going all over the shop. It was tough conditions, but both teams had to play in them.”
