COACH Dean Bailey says Liam Jurrah’s spectacular mark against Port Adelaide was as good as he has seen.

Speaking after Melbourne’s disappointing 29-point loss at AAMI Stadium on Sunday, Bailey said Jurrah’s climb over teammate Jack Watts and the Power’s Nick Salter was hard to top.

“On a day of not too many highlights that was a good one for him (Jurrah),” he said.

“Not too many better come to mind. That was pretty special”

Reflecting on the loss, Bailey pointed to several areas that cost the Dees.

"I think we missed opportunities early. Some of our set shots early were disappointing - 2.7 on the board was disappointing, our decision making and our skills in the middle of the ground cost us and turnovers cost us,” he said.

"Even when we were in unpressured situations we found a way to turn it over. But, I think early on our inability to put more scoreboard pressure on was disappointing  … the scoreboard says we weren't good enough, often enough.

"They took their chances in the second quarter and they kicked five straight. While they were kicking goals, we were missing them and kicking points and you just can't afford to do that when you travel interstate."

Bailey said it was also a disappointing result for skipper James McDonald, who became the seventh Demon to reach the 250-game milestone.

“James is always going to give his all every week - that’s why you get to play 250 games and be the captain of the club,” he said.

“It was really disappointing that we couldn’t pull one out of the hat today for him today.

“The boys were really disappointed with their own efforts today”
