OUTSTANDING young midfielder Jack Trengove will have to pass a fitness test before playing in Melbourne’s season-opener against Sydney Swans at the MCG on March 27.

Trengove is battling an ankle injury, which forced him to miss last Friday’s NAB Challenge loss to Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium.

The Demons are already without James Frawley (shoulder), Cale Morton (hand) and Jordie McKenzie (groin) for the start of the season.

In other injury news, premiership ruckman Robert Campbell (achilles) remains on the sidelines for six to eight weeks, while young defender Troy Davis (thyroid disorder) continues to be assessed.

Jack Fitzpatrick (shoulder) and Tom McNamara (foot) are still another three weeks away.

Nominated rookie Michael Newton is now just one week away from returning from a hand injury.
